In reality it is often difficult, if not impossible, to implement the ideal Lean flow with specific equipement dedicated to each homogeneous production flow (value stream).
Often very different product flows have to share resources, either to make use of existing equipement or due to the high mix and volume variety of each Value Stream.
In these cases, basic Lean approaches allow to link production to demand, but do not really optimize performances of the whole production system.
Only a completely synchronized continuous flow system enables you to:
- dramatically reduce lead times
- Manage the different production paces of different product families
- reduce work in progress
- improve responsiveness to the customer
